Welcome to the world of Japanese embroidery, Sashiko, by Rei Saito, a pioneer in this artistry technique who continued to embroider every day until the age of 90. She celebrates her 98th year this year.
Artist Profile:
Rei Saito, born in Hirosaki in 1928.
Sashiko artist. From a young age, she studied French embroidery and Japanese painting under Gyoshu Okitsu, a disciple of Gyokudo Kawai. She developed her own unique style based on the ‘sashiko’ technique passed down from her grandmother, creating numerous works that incorporate patterns with a fresh sensibility.
